The Corona Virus has spared none! The Srijan Family is no exception, with limited resources at our disposal. Here are some ways in which we have been coping with the pandemic.
For one, with no sources of income and as cases rise sharply in Dehradun, several parents of our kids moved to their villages with their families. Getting them to connect or respond to messages was a challenge as they tried to cope with this shock. Finally, we got video calls going! Using apps like Zoom or meet.google was an impossible task. Hence, teachers took to Whatsapp, and connected with 8 students at one go, worked with them on various subjects, and shared notes with them.
Other than that, it was new territory for parents to supervise their children & their digital homeschooling through the day. We often had some students deleting the calls from teachers to avoid tasks set for them. Infact, some parents were under the impression that no calls were being made! We surpassed that challenge by creating records of all the assignments being made. Parents are slowly realizing the efforts being made by our teachers to work over-time and keep the children engaged. Parents refusing to pay the fees is another challenge we have been dealing with.
However, our biggest challenge is going to come once schools reopen we need to get the students on track. As lockdown eases and parents start working, it is essential to ensure the children get their due guidance. Counselling, regular activity, and training is important. I also would like to get some workshops in place with qualified psychologists, as mental health has become a big issue during this isolation of adults, children, employees et all!
Each battle that we have faced is due to this cohesive power of Srijan backed by Yogashakti and undoubtedly, God's Grace! All we can do at Srijan is hope that all the children, their families remain safe from the virus!
